USAG Girls Competitive Teams

AGC’s fastest growing program, our successful USAG competitive team. The philosophy of our team program is to provide high quality gymnastics instruction while developing life skills such as goal setting, teamwork, and dedication. The team program at AGC consists of three levels, the first is an introductory program called superstars, the second is a fun meet team, and the third is a competitive team.

Superstars is a pre-team program for girls ages 3 to 6. Superstars meet one and a half hours per week. The class is structured with more intense strength and flexibility than our regular recreation classes and this better prepares your child to enter the fun meet team at level 2.

The fun meet team consists of levels 2 through 4 and is for ages 5 and up. The girls on this team learn the USA gymnastics routines on each event for their level and have the opportunity to attend 6 fun meets throughout the year. Attendance at all meets is not required. Fun meets are an introduction to regular competitive meets; however, the girls do not receive numerical scores. All gymnastics are awarded participation ribbons and team trophies.

The competitive team consists of levels 4 through 10. These girls travel throughout the state and region to attend competitions. The number of competitions depends on the level, typically the higher the level, the more competitions all gymnastics are expected to attend. Meets are not optional at this level and gymnastics are expected to attend all competitions unless special circumstances arise.

The gymnastics competitive season generally runs from December through May. During this time, the main focus of training is on routines. At the end of each season, all athletes are evaluated for summer placement and new team members are added at this time. Summer training focuses on strength training and development of new skills. Final competitive level placements are decided early in September. It is not unusual for gymnastics to spend more than one year competing at the same level. Due to thus type of training approach, team gymnastics is a year-long commitment, it is not possible to leave for the summer and return to the team program.
